RIYADH: The police in Jazan have arrested several members of a gang responsible for 60 cases of theft, including money, gold, jewelry and motorcycles.

Police teams led by Lt. Col. Hozan Al-Jabri arrested them in Sibya. Sheikh Mohammed Selman Abraham Qanawi, mayor of Sibya, said the arrests were made in coordination with security agencies and citizens.

He said that the gang members admitted to having committing the crimes. “If they had not been arrested, they could have continued stealing money and property belonging to our citizens,” Qanawi said.

The criminals were identified after they were filmed by surveillance cameras installed in strategic places.

He thanked the officers involved in the operations, which were launched after complaints were filed by citizens.

He urged citizens to be careful and to cooperate with the security authorities. This would discourage people from committing crimes and causing anxiety and fear in the community, he said.
