RIYADH: The Kingdom’s governors on Sunday called for ensuring traffic safety on the occasion of the GCC Traffic Week.

Various activities were launched under the theme “Your decisions determine your destiny,” aimed at educating motorists on the importance of observing traffic rules and regulations.

Hail Gov. Prince Saud bin Abdul Mohsen stressed the importance of continuing education in ensuring traffic safety to avoid loss of precious human lives and property.

“It’s also important to have a diversity of programs and a selection of new tools for the effective implementation of rules and regulations on traffic safety,” he said.

He launched a new uniform for police patrols in the presence of Prince Abdulaziz bin Saad, deputy governor of the region.

Prince Faisal bin Khalid, governor of the Asir region, stressed the importance of focusing on the young, and the need to educate them to ensure safety on the road.

“Many of the car accidents involve the youth, whose lives are ahead of them. They are the pillars of the future. They will lead the Kingdom in the search for development,” he said.

Prince Jalawi bin Abdulaziz, Najran governor, said that the activities on the occasion reflected the keenness of the GCC leaders for the safety of Gulf citizens.

“This is done by activating the role of community partnerships and provide a civilized traffic environment that’s free from vehicular accidents,” he said. Prince Jalawi underlined the importance of road safety in GCC countries and the level of security cooperation among them.

Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed was happy to note that GCC Traffic Week activities would help educate citizens on proper ways of driving cars, and minimize, if not altogether prevent, road accidents.

Qassim Gov. Prince Faisal bin Mishaal said that the event has a significant impact in spreading a culture of compliance of traffic safety rules among citizens.
