RIYADH: Riyadh, Zulfi, Qassim and areas extending to the south-west highlands are likely to witness heavy showers in the coming days, the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) has said.

The capital, which received heavy rain on Thursday, is also expected to experience thunderstorms coupled with heavy dust. Similar weather conditions will extend to the eastern region, Hafr Al-Batin and Kuwait, and the condition will continue till Monday, it said.

Surface wind raising dust will extend to the eastern region, Riyadh and Madinah while stretching to Najran and areas such as Asir, Baha, Jazan and Makkah, especially their eastern parts.

Rain and thunderstorms with cloudy weather will also affect the Al-Jouf region and the northern border. A slight increase in the temperature will be experienced in these areas.

There are strong chances of fog at night and in the early hours of the day in the south-western and western highlands.

Meanwhile, the Civil Defense in Riyadh is ready with a strategic plan to meet any emergencies in case of flooding and rain in the region.

Earlier in a statement, Maj. Gen. Ahmed bin Ayesh Ettalhi, the director of Civil Defense in Riyadh, said 180 teams comprising 720 officers would be ready to attend to any emergency needs. The teams will be equipped with 330 machines to pump out water in low-lying areas.

He said the plans will be implemented in coordination with the Riyadh municipality, headed by Mayor Ibrahim bin Mohamed Al-Sultan.

He also said the authorities will follow the SCADA electronic system to monitor the rising water levels in the reservoirs.
