RIYADH: Aneesur Rehman and Zaki Haider have been elected president and general secretary of Riyadh’s Jamia Milia Alumni Association (JMIAA).

Mohammad Najeeb Qasmi, who conducted the election, announced the results recently. Rehman polled 164 votes while Haider 156 votes.

Vice President Laique Ahmad Azmi, Joint Secretary Mohammed Rahbar and Treasurer Neemu Khan were elected unopposed.

Arif Ahmad Khan, Azmatullah Khan, Farrukh Ahmad, Mazahir Hussain Rizvi, Mohammed Haroon Qasmi, Mustafa Haider Abidi, Perwez Alam, Safeer Ahmad, Salahuddin, Syed Saif bin Hilal, Tarique Anwar and Tauquir Ahmad were elected unopposed as executive members.

Ghizal Mahdi, the outgoing president, in his report, mentioned the publication of the first JMI Alumni Directory, which contains the details of Jamiaites in 25 cities of the Kingdom.

Rehman and Haider thanked all the Jamiaites, especially the younger Jamiaites, and assured to take the association to newer heights.

Nisar Ahmad Khan, who lost the election for the post of general secretary by a margin of 16 votes, said he would cooperate with the new team.

The Jamiaites praised Najeeb Qasmi, Abdur Rahman Umri and Shamim Ahmad for conducting the election.

The outgoing team, comprising Ghizal Mahdi, Ghayasuddin, Abid Aqeel, Irfanul Haque Nadwi and Abdur Rahman Umri, presented a bouquet to the new team that includes Laique Ahmad Azmi, Mohammed Rahber and Neemu Khan, aside from Rehman and Haider.

Qasmi said the association came into existence in 2006 following the advice of former Jamia Milia Vice Chancellor Mushirul Hassan.
