RIYADH: The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has suspended 55,000 powers of attorney to prevent the excesses of some agents following the death of their clients.

Majid Othman bin Othman Al-Othman, general manager of Information Technology at the MoJ , said, “The linkage between the Ministry of Justice and the National Information Center (NIC) at the Interior Ministry contributed to the reduction of excesses of some agents.”

Power of attorney is a written authorization to represent or act on another’s behalf in private affairs, business or legal matter, sometimes against the wishes of the other.

The person authorizing the other to act is the principal, grantor or donor of the power.

Al-Othman said the bonding process contributed to the increased accuracy, transparency and achievement in the courts and the writings of standards that limit the excesses of some of the heirs and agents.

Othman said the MoJ is working with the NIC to provide the names of the deceased electronically to speed up the decisions to protect the rights of the deceased and the heirs from undue exploitation.

He lauded the NIC due to its cooperation with the MoJ to protect the rights of the deceased and reduce the expenses incurred by poor people who are prone to be taken advantaged of.

Dr. Waleed bin Mohammed Al-Samaani, minister of justice and chairman of the Supreme Council of Judiciary, and Dr. Tariq bin Abdullah Sheddi, NIC director general, inaugurated the link between the justice and interior ministries to facilitate the enforcement of judicial decisions.

These include the decisions on requests for arrest warrants and implementation of decisions on travel bans.
