Jeddah Municipality has received 80 applications for Ramadan stalls in the historic downtown area of Jeddah for different products such as incense, sweets, dates an other items, it said.

“The stalls have become a Ramadan tradition in the last 50 years, and for us, it has become a profession passed on to us from our grandparents and parents,” said Mohammad Abu Sabeen, owner of a sweets and nuts stall in Qabel Street in the Balad (downtown) area.

“Sweets and nuts are considered essential in the Saudi household during Ramadan, as families break their fast. They are also at the center of Eid Al Fitr festivities,” he added.

The branch of municipality in Balad is receiving applications from males and females who want to have Ramadan stalls.

Locations designated in the historical part of the city are in the Jeddah train square, municipality square, Al Sholeh, Qabel Street, Al Naddah Market, Naseef, Al Khasqieh, the dates market as well as Bab Makkah and Bab Sharief.

Most of the stalls would be set up from the 1st day of Ramadan except for the incense, fragrances and Eid sweets, which would be established during the second half of the holy month.

The municipality indicated that safety measures have been taken into consideration in coordination with the Civil Defense in preparation against any accidents.

The licenses will be delivered before the beginning of Ramadan, it added.

Stall owners were urged to respect the regulations and safeguard public hygiene and cleanliness in the vicinity of their stalls to preserve the beauty of the historic area.

Stalls will be inspected by employees from the Jeddah Municipality to make sure regulations are adhered to, the mayor cautioned while emphasizing that licenses would be revoked for those who do not respect the laws.
