RIYADH: A new system involving tow-away cars was launched on Tuesday at King Khaled International Airport (KKIA), north of Riyadh.

A car is towed away or clamped on the road if it has violated rules like obstructing traffic or being parked in prohibited areas.

The new system offers a range of operations, detaining the vehicle through the entry, saving the data and the reason for impounding, and the system automatically links the vehicle with a numbered position. Then the new system electronically prints the impounding order with a special number.

The system also provides reports and statistics on impounded vehicles, and clarifies the condition of the vehicle and the number of times that it has been impounded.

It also indicates the impound duration as well as information and reports on the driver and the number of vehicles impounded under his name.

The program also provides a number of search tools including a search function on the plate number which links it to the the number of violations.

The launching of the new system was attended by Maj. Gen. Abdullah bin Hasan Al-Zahrani, director general of the Traffic Department; Maj. Gen. Saleh bin Abdulah Al-Saleh, director general of the Department of Security Patrols; and Zayed Ataiwaan, director of special forces on the security of roads in Riyadh.
