The iftar party organized by the OICC Sharafiya Committee was distinguished from similar occasions, as members used the event to distribute tickets and clothing to under privileged Indian workers leaving the Kingdom on exit-only visas.

Almost 100 Indian workers attended the event, relaying their harrowing experience, living illegally in Jeddah under the Kandara flyover in Sharafiya District.

The OICC Committee had offered to provide air tickets to some of these workers and three tickets were distributed during the event, said KTA Muneer, an OICC official. “We will continue our efforts to help compatriots who have obtained exit visas, but have not been able to leave the Kingdom due to lack of money,” Muneer said.

Alungal Mohammed, CMD of Al-Abeer Medical Group, opened the event that was held at Impala Garden and honored KM Sharief Kunhu for his contributions to strengthen the Overseas Indian Cultural Congress in Jeddah.

The event also witnessed the distribution of Eid clothes among Indian illegal workers staying under Kandara Bridge. Sharief Kunhu, Abdul Majeed Naha, KTA Muneer, Roy Mathew and Chemban Abbas gave felicitations.

Kunhi Mohammed Kodasheri, president of the committee, welcomed the guests, while Bappu Melakam gave a vote of thanks.
