RIYADH: Police have arrested a father in a Jazan village for the murder of his 10-year-old son.

The murder took place in Ahad Al-Masarihah. The killer followed his son from school and stabbed him to death for no reason.

The killer earlier served a jail sentence for murdering his own uncle. He was released from jail following the payment of blood money to the victim’s next of kin.

The killer is thought to be a psychiatric patient and the police are inspecting his medical reports.

According to neighbors, the killer’s behavior possibly indicated mental illness.

In an unrelated murder, a Saudi man, in his 40s, shot and killed his mother in his house in the Bader district in the west of Riyadh.

According to Riyadh police spokesman Col. Fawaz bin Jameel Al-Maiman, the police rushed to the scene of the incident based on a tip given by a Saudi in the neighborhood.

The police said the mother died instantly following the gunshots. The police did not specify the motive of the killing. The police are carrying out further investigations.

On completion of the inquiry, the case will be referred to the Bureau of Investigations and Public Prosecution for legal action against the accused.
