RIYADH: The Higher Committee for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Prize and Grant on the History of Arabian Peninsula, which is chaired by King Salman, announced the winners on Monday.

In the category for Saudis, the winners are Ismail bin Mohammed Al-Bishri, rector of Al-Jouf University, and Sulaiman bin Abdul Rahman Al-Zabaib, professor at the College of Tourism and Archaeology at King Saud University.

Al-Bishri was awarded for his efforts in authoring, verification and studying a number of books related to the history of Saudi Arabia and the Arabian Peninsula.

Al-Zabaib was awarded for his efforts in old writings on the antiquities and history within and outside the Kingdom and for his contributions and review of books in Arabic and English.

In the non-Saudi category, the winner was Khalid bin Hamoud Al-Sadoun, an Iraqi national who is currently professor at Sharjah University, UAE. He was awarded for authoring a number of historic researches which enriched the history of the Arabian Gulf.

The prizes for doctoral thesis were won by Badriyah bint Abdul Aziz Al-Busairi of Princess Nora bint Abdul Rahman University for her research on the water resources in Hejaz between 1st and 3rd Hijri centuries, and Al-Jowharah bint Abdulaziz Al-Sadoun of King Saud University for her research on the pottery and ceramics of Islamic Rabzah site.

THe prize for master’s thesis was won by Rasha bint Ibrahim Al-Fowaz of King Saud University for her research on the architectural drawings in Al-Okhdoud site, and Rima bint Salih Al-Qirnas of Dammam University for her research on the care of the needy categories in Makkah and Madinah in the era of Mamlukes.

The fifth: prize for scientific articles was won by Abdul Aziz bin Rashid Al-Sinaidi of Qassim University for his research on charity works of Mogul rulers in the Two Holy Mosques during the 8th and 9th Hijri centuries.

The awards committee expressed its deep appreciation to King Salman for his care, follow-up and support to the scientific research drive for the enhancement of knowledge.
