RIYADH: Restaurants, cafeterias and eateries that do not have see-through, glass-partitioned kitchens face immediate closure, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs has warned.

The ministry has asked the municipalities to conduct checks on all food facilities, whether they are restaurants, cafeterias or bakeries, to make sure they are committed to the health regulations, local media reported on Sunday.

The law states that customers of restaurants should be able to watch what happens inside the food preparation areas, and that there should be no obstacles to the view.

The ministry's move aims to improve the monitoring of any violations that threaten the health of consumers.

Officials were quoted as saying that health supervisors follow up on all restaurants to ensure hygiene rules are followed.

Field teams will follow up on violators of the regulations and will impose penalties on them, according to the law, the officials said. Non-compliance may result in the withdrawal of the restaurant license and complete closure, they added.
