The Dauhat Al-Uloom International School in Jeddah recently observed World Environment Day with programs to create awareness among students on the need to protect the environment.

“Students have an important role to play in environment conservation,” said Ghulam Rasool, the principal. “Save the planet by planting at least one sapling on your birthdays,” he said.

An inter-class collage competition initiated by Anees Fathima was the highlight of the day, which was marked with the theme “Go Green.” The event began with a tree-planting campaign in acknowledgment of the importance of trees for sustaining life.

Awareness programs included painting competitions, interhouse poster-making and an elocution competition.

Collages with messages on reducing pollution and conserving flora and fauna were prepared by students using waste material.

MVA Saleem, managing director, reminded students of their responsibility toward environmental preservation.

Zeenath Saleem, a school official, appreciated the efforts of both teachers and students in making the event a success.
