RIYADH: The training and scholarship department at the Jazan Health Affairs Directorate has organized a program to train doctors in southern border hospitals on critical injuries.

Dr. Awagi bin Qasim Al-Nami, program director for Jazan region, said that the doctors will undergo training under qualified and certified instructors.

The training will be in accordance with ATLS which teaches a systematic and concize approach to the care of a trauma patient. It is approved by the American Society of Surgeons.

Al-Nami, also the assistant director general for planning and training, said that the ATLS training skills under the American society has been adopted at the Jazan Health Affairs Directorate since December 2012.

“The training skills are in addition to a number of other programs we have adopted and applicable to serious injuries and critical situations,” he said.

He added that the program is in support of hospitals in the southern borders and participates in the rehabilitation of health personnel of hospitals and clinics.

“The program is also intended for the health maintenance and treatment of the “brave soldiers who are defending the borders of the Kingdom.”

Al-Nami noted that some Saudi troops have either lost their life or were injured during the “selfless act of protecting the borders of the Kingdom in Najran, Asir and Jazan.”

“The program is indeed necessary and timely in view of the circumstances that are currently taking place,” he said.
