RIYADH: The Saudi government led by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman has given SR1 million to the family of Ibrahim Abdulaziz Al-Qulaly, an Egyptian national, who saved 10 people from a fire at a Jazan hospital in December.

Presenting the check to the wife of the martyr, a mother of three children, Deputy Health for Therapeutic Services Minister Hamad Al-Dhuwelia said the money was to honor the man for his sacrifice.

The fire at the hospital killed 24 people and injured 123.

The presentation was held at the residence of the Saudi Ambassador in Cairo Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Qattan in Cairo on Wednesday.

Qattan, who is also the permanent representative of the Arab League, was accompanied by Egypt’s Immigration and Expatriate Affairs Minister Nabila Makram.

At the outset, the deputy minister conveyed the condolences to the family from the king, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif, deputy premier and interior minister, and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, second deputy premier and defense minister.

The Egyptian national set the finest example with his sacrifice and selflessness to save the life of others, said Al-Dhuwelia.

Arrangements will be made for the wife and children to perform Haj this year, he said.

Makram thanked the Saudi government for showing such gratitude to the grieving family.
