RIYADH: Advertisement campaigns for fake TOFEL and ILET certificates are being monitored on social media websites in an effort to halt this illegal practice.

The certificates originate from Jordan and can be obtained by clients for a sum of SR2,000, without any training or study.

The certificates are used by some Saudis to get ahead in their education or career overseas, while one owner of an advertising company that displays these fake certificates on Twitter has said that people can obtain them without much effort at all.

In fact, all that is required is for the buyer to provide their personal details, photo, passport and the payment.

The owner of the advertising company in question, who preferred to keep his identity anonymous, said they have a committee of doctors in Jordan who send the fake certificates to buyers abroad in total confidentiality.

These campaigns continue after three years of threats from the Ministry of Higher Education to pursue offices that sell fake certificates in the court system to bring them to justice.
