JEDDAH: A group of Umrah pilgrims from Jordan allegedly ransacked a well-known restaurant in Tabuk and beat up its Turkish workers over a dispute recently.

The police, who soon arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control, took the pilgrims to the Al-Hamra police station, local media reported Monday.

The pilgrims were told to pay SR20,000 for the damages they caused to the furniture and equipment at the facility. Restaurant owner Awad Abu Rasheed, however, waived half the penalty and withdrew the case.

According to the report, a number Jordanian pilgrims were on their way to the Halat Amar border in buses after performing Umrah rituals. The bus stopped at the restaurant for dinner, sources were quoted as saying.

After some time, a quarrel broke out between the pilgrims and the restaurant employees. The Jordanians allegedly beat up the workers and broke the tables and the other properties in the restaurant, leaving customers shocked.

A video clip was circulated on social media showing a number of Jordanians welcoming the buses in Ma’aan, Jordan, according to tweeters on social networking sites.
