JEDDAH: Cabalen Restaurant and Lumbatan Bombi scored contrasting victories in their first games in their respective divisions during the second week in the 12th Filsama Invitational Basketball Conference at Rawdah court here.
Cabalen Restaurant was kept on its toes all game long but then watched Starbucks collapse in the overtime to score a 90-79 victory in the second game Friday.
In contrast, Lumbatan enjoyed a straight away 87-80 triumph in the Strong B Division over Kabayan in the nightcap Friday, as Barry Nader led four players in double figures with 23 points. Jay Liam and Barry D. each scored 17 points and Harry Santiago had 16. For Kabayan Lisztian Amparado set an early high scoring record of the tournament with 45 points. Rasol added 12 and Maliksi had 8 points.
Cabalen and Starbucks fought a high intensity battle in both offense and defense. Starbucks forced overtime at 70-70. But Starbucks was a totally different team in the five-minute extra period, lapsing into turnovers and missing crucial free throws.
Edwin Dula led Cabalen with 18 points, while Ryan Besoza added 16, Macmad tallied 16 and Toto Tobeo made 13 points. Starbucks had Parilla and Ampalu sharing scoring honors on 16 points with Tecson and Barry Dimaciling scoring 14 and 13 points.
Starbucks had mixed result of its weekend assignments having beaten AMI Pioneer 74-65 in the second game Thursday. Counting its opening day win over Jeddah Lions, Starbucks now has a 2-1 win-loss record in Inter-Company Non-Rated A.
The leading scorers for Starbucks were Bacarat 13 points, Janno Dedosun 13 and Macho Tecson 12 points. For AMI Abraham Rivera tallied 12 points, Ivan Margacha 11 and Kim Limuman 7 points.
IHOP also split its opening games in Inter-Company B, losing against Sarawat 90-74 in the first game Thursday but rebounding with 81-73 victory against RPG Abudawood in the first game Friday.
V. Salazar and Limin scored 19 and 14 points to be at the helm of Sarawat. IHOP got 24 points from Bryan Bacera, 14 from Marvin Vargas and 10 from Kenneth D.
Against RPG, Bacero, Collado and Vargas fired 14, 13 and 11 points in a three-pronged IHOP attack.
Sam Manalang led RPG scores on 23 points. Jeff Capugan added 14 and James “Faisal” Fernandez had 13 points.
Filsama Basketball League under the leadership of president and commissioner Abdulmoen “Teng” Laguialam is back after a lull of five months. With Laguialam and Assistant Commissioner Johnny Kitab in the FBL committee are Rene Valle, treasurer ; Allen Celosia, technical director; Ogie Nucum, secretary-general, and the table officials.
