JEDDAH: D’ Barkads won the total pinfalls tiebreak for the third outright finals beth against Salam Rice with Al Murjanah and Habagat sealing the top two during the positioning round 19th week in the Thursday League 16th Season for Sarawat Superstores Cup at the Bowling City here.
Separated by 4 points entering this week’s round, D’ Barkads and Salam had 14 and 18 points respectively to add to their total win points, resulting in a tie for third place at 391.0 points.
When the total pinfalls with handicap was applied to break the tie D’ Barkads went through 57, 211 to 57, 206 pinfalls.
Habagat was the top points getter during the positioning round on 32 points while Murjanah tallied 21.
The first match of the stepladder finals will be a two games with handicap knockout among the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 teams that will join the top three after a semifinal knockout game of 3 handicap series featuring the remaining six teams.
Winner of the first match advances opposite No. 3 D’ Barkads. The second match winner then plays No. 2 Habagat for the right to challenge No. 1 Murjana in the championship match with a twice to beat format.
AL Striker, a late bloomer of a team along with Salam Rice, was second to Habagat on 29 points followed by Al Kabeer 27 and Sarawat Superstores 25.
Jem Striker and Casadores had 9 and 5 points in the other positioning round results.
Habagat enjoyed the luxury of having to pick a single set of five players for their total, led by Geo Mangaliman on 689. Rommel Cagampang shot 666 that went with the 625 by Rene Punzalan, 597 by Jimmy Aragones and 568 by Med Ramos.
Tommy Kamal led the AL charge on 684 followed by Ally Bin 636, Bonnie Garcia 586 and Benjie Cils 578. The other scorers were Gerry Lim 175-178 and Cesar Monares 197.
Al Kabeer used a six-man rotation, Jhune Estefano, Rommel Agbayani and Archie Santos carding three-game series of 645, 615 and 587 in that order. With two games each were Jowett Carrion 223-194, Bandar Al Dosary 191-205 and Hairul Malay 189-147.
