JEDDAH: Ekis Reload will lead Pinslashers and Sagmit Dental Clinic into the championship round as the top three finishers in the eliminations following the positioning round during the 19th session in the FTBJ-ICBL 36th Conference bowling tournament at the Bowling City here.
Ekis, on 40 points behind top point-getter JP Gilas 2 47 and Cristal Rock-n Roll 40.5, retained the No. 1 spot after briefly losing it to Pinslashers who compiled 26 points on the day to keep second place in the team standings.
Sagmit, which posted a double at the end of the eliminations the previous week, was likewise untouched at No. 3 despite a modest tally of 24 points during the positioning session.
The remaining 10 teams to miss outright places for the stepladder finals get a chance to join the league top three when they play a knockout game of three handicap series. Four teams with the highest points qualify as the Nos. 4, 5, 6, and 7 teams that will then play two games with handicap in the first match of the stepladder. The winner will go on to play Sagmit Dental Clinic in the second stepladder match to determine who advances to another knockout vs. Pinslashers. The winner of the third match takes a shot at waiting top finalist Ekis in the championship match with a twice-to-beat format.
Patsamba tallied 39 points with Saudia Ice Cream the only other team to cross 30 points, as Sadafco and Zekiesha sandwiched Pinslashers in the day’s order of finish on 27 and 25. Sky Freight-OSN had 24.5 points while defending champion Hidada Ltd., D’ Barkads and United Doctors ended up last three on 19, 12 and 4 points.
The week’s top individual performers were Alma Bacero (Ekis) and Jimmy Aragones (Saudia Ice Cream) who rolled the high series of 674 and 675 in their divisions.
Paolo Allego shot the day’s third-best score of 661 while leading Gilas 2 with Rene Punzalan hitting 601 and the ladies pair of Jeanette Cerbito and Lourdes Punzalan scoring 632 and 619. Rey Beltran added 234-192 and Rolly Vistal had 224.
For the second straight week, Ekis bowled like the dominating team it is in the tournament with Malu Gime following Alma’s lead on 645. Zaldy Bacero and George Mangaliman were the other players to go the distance on 643 and 577 while Emil Payongayong had 217-183 and Fadi Al Haddad 173.
Like Ekis Cristal had lady bowler Aileen Miralbuna showing the way on 633, backed up by Rene Ocampo and Mohd. Al Amri on 629 and 613, a number that was matched by another player from the distaff side namely Eloisa Fernandez. Jayson Castillo contributed 2160182 and Jojie Manalansan had 186.
At Pinslashers May Lourdes and Roger Daquioag took charge on 606 and 601 followed by Hanna Reyes 526 and Daryl Laquias 520. Rommel Cagampang made 268-212 and Maet Cavite had 181.
