RIYADH : General Electric (GE) cricket team won the Riyadh Tamil Sangam (RTS) premier league that concluded here recently.

Playing its first tournament in the Kingdom GE boys defeated Team 12, a formidable cricket side in Riyadh, by eight wickets to romp home in

a one sided final.

Earlier, Team12 won the toss and elected to bat first, but it was unlucky as their team was rocked by GE star bowler Farooq, who claimed 2 crucial wickets to jolt their batting lineup.

He got good support from team mate Sami, who followed with 2 wickets in the next spell dismantling the batting order of Team 12.

Other GE bowlers Mughal, Mudassir, Ikram and Faizi ably supported the

their team to make sure that it emerge victorious as the Team 12 bundled out on just 96, which GE batsmen

scored in 9 overs for the loss of 2 wickets only.

Omar Asad top scored for GE with 50 not out.

On way to the grand finale GE had lost the first match to Team 12 and came back at the right time to beat them in the important finals after winning

six matches on the trot.

For the GE to come victorious in the group stages, its key players Irfan, Mudassir, Ashraf, Zia Imtiaz, Omar Asad and Farooq excelled with the bat and Sami,

Farooq, Alaa, Ikram, Faizi and Mudassir did well wih the ball to make sure the team win.

Irfan bagged man of match for GE in the quarterfinal, Mudassir and Omar Asad won the same award in the semifinal and final.

Irfan and Sami bagged it in the league stages.

Zia Imtiaz was outstanding behind the stumps with superb catches.

Omar Asad led the side with class and was ably supported by Alauddin.

RTS premier league organizer Ahmed Imthias, who is also

ex-Chairman of International Indian School Riyadh (IISR) said 12 teams entered the tournament, which included Seimens, Saudi Ericsson, 3M, GE, SAMBA, Team 12, Luster, Kingdom Cricket Club, Tamil Pasanga, Strikers XI, LusterCC and Arrows.

Imtiaz Ahmed, chairman IIPSR, honored the winners in the final.

The tournament was organised successfully by RTS.

GE donated the prize money to orphanage for charity.
