MILAN: Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic has been ruled out of action for up to two weeks after suffering a thigh injury in a 2-1 defeat to Cagliari at the weekend.

The news will come as a blow to La Viola, who sit in fourth position in Serie A and are fighting for third place and a tilt at next season’s Champions League.

A statement on Fiorentina’s website said: “After undergoing tests Stevan Jovetic has been diagnosed with a lesion of the biceps femoris muscle.

“He will likely be ruled out for up to two weeks.” It means Jovetic, one of Fiorentina’s key players, will miss this weekend’s visit of AC Milan and the following week’s visit to Atalanta.

Fiorentina’s defeat to Cagliari means they are now six points behind third-placed Milan, who are two points behind Napoli in second and 11 behind leaders Juventus.
