RIYADH: The Riyadh Inter-Hotels Basketball League geared up for its 29th season when representatives from different hotels in Riyadh gathered for a final meeting ahead of the opening of the Riyadh Inter-Hotels Basketball League 2016.
This league is under the wings of the Riyadh Inter-Hotels Sports Committee, an association of hotel workers and staff that was formed in August 1985 in Riyadh under the chairmanship of Carlos Ollero before his final exit in 2015.
To take over where Ollero left off is Alvin P. Buot (IHG) as the organizing committee chairman. With Buot in the committee are Leo Valencia (vice-chairman Riyadh Marriott), James Paul Corpus (treasurer/team captain InterContinental) and Mario Jose (coordinator InterContinental).
Present during the meeting presided by Buot at InterContinental training room last Friday were Leo Valencia (Riyadh Marriott), Kris Paulo Banal and Allan delos Reyes (Sheraton Riyadh Hotel &Towers), Lawrence Silerio and John Rey Belnas (Burj Rafal Kempinski Riyadh), Krishnan Engoc (Novotel), Yousef Laya, Fred Redulfin and John Pacho (Holiday Inn Meydan), Franco Rempillo (Vivienda Hotel Villas) and James Corpus, Jaylord Apas and Renato Mendoza (InterContinental Hotel).
The 2015 champion, InterContinental Riyadh basketball team, will defend the crown against 9 leading hotels team from Courtyard by Marriott, Holiday Inn-Meydan, Burj Rafal Kempinski Riyadh, Riyadh Marriott Hotel, Movenpick Hotel , Novotel Riyadh, The Ritz Carlton Hotel, Sheraton Hotel & Towers, & Vivienda Hotel Villas.
InterContinental Riyadh staff basketball court will be the official venue of the tournament. Opening date is on Sept. 30, a Friday, at 5 p.m.
