The Egyptian film festival wrapped up its third edition on Friday, but not before a clutch of directors were awarded for their work.
Best Narrative Film
Sudanese director Amjad Abu Alala won the coveted award for his film “You Will Die at Twenty,” which tells the story of a Sudanese youth haunted by a Dervish prophecy.
Best Arab Narrative Film
Algeria’s Mounia Meddour won for “Papicha,” which follows the life of an unabashed 18-year-old who refuses to let the Algerian Civil War prevent her from living a normal teenage life.
Best Actress
Hend Sabry nabbed the award for her role in “Noura’s Dream,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and explores an abusive marriage.
Best Actor
Poland’s Bartosz Bielenia was awarded for his role in jailhouse drama “Corpus Christi.”
Best Documentary Film
Sudan’s Suhaib Gasmelbari nabbed the award for his documentary “Talking About Trees,” which follows four older filmmakers who battle to bring cinema-going back to Sudan.
Best Arab Documentary Film
In “Ibrahim: A Fate to Define,” director Lina Al-Abed searches for traces of her disappeared father — a seemingly ordinary Palestinian man who was actually a secret member of a militant splinter faction.
