DUBAI: The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences on Monday invited 842 members from 59 countries to the Oscars organization. Here are a few of the names from the Middle East on the list.
Khadija Al-Salami

Director Khadija Al-Salami’s movie, “I Am Nujood, Age 10 and Divorced,” was the first Yemeni movie to be submitted for Oscars consideration in 2014.
Yousra

Veteran Egyptian actress Yousra was also among the list of invitees. Yousra, who is also a singer, made her big screen debut in 1977’s “Fatah Tabhath Aan Al-Hob” (A Girl Searching for Love).
Amr Salama

The Academy announced that the Egyptian director will join list of voters on July 1. Congratulations circulated on social media in support of Salama.
Talal Derki

Another of this year’s Academy invitees is Syrian director Talal Derki. He was nominated for a 2019 Academy Award in the Best Feature Documentary category.
Raja Amari

As the Academy continues its drive to diversify its committee, Tunisian director Raja Amari was announced as one of the latest names on the list. Amari’s best-known work is 2002 film “Satin Rouge.”
Karim Amer

Karim Amer is a producer and director, best known for “The Square” (2013) and “The Great Hack” (2019).
