DUBAI: It is no easy task observing Ramadan during the summer period, so why not break your fast with one of these popular drinks?

  1. Qamar Al-Din
    Qamar Al-Din

    The thick, sweet apricot nectar contains sugar to boost your depleted energy levels. The drink is made of dried apricot ­— available in rolled or paste form — soaked in boiling water with added sugar.

  2. Sobya
    Sobya

    The starchy milk drink, popular in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, can be served white or dyed red. It is prepared by lightly fermenting brown bread, then mixing it with coconut powder, milk and sugar.

  3. Carob juice
    Carob juice

    Made from the carob pod, a healthy substitute for chocolate, this cold drink is popular in Libya, Sudan and Egypt.

  4. Jellab
    Jellab

    The refreshing juice is prepared by mixing grape molasses, dates, rose water and sugar and is popular in the Levant region.

  5. Balah bel Laban
    Balah bel Laban

    What could be more delicious than caramel-like dates steeped in warm milk? That’s what this popular sweet treat is all about.

  6. Tamer Hindi
    Tamer Hindi

    This tamarind-based juice is prepared by breaking open a tamarind fruit and soaking it in water, followed by sifting it. It has a sour taste and is usually sweetened with sugar and served ice cold.
