NEW DELHI: Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar died of drug overdose, says her autopsy report.

According to sources, the post-mortem report also states that there were more than 12 injuries on Sunanda’s body, none of which were found to be fatal.

A police team led by a sub-divisional magistrate had recovered anti-depressant and other drugs from her suite No. 345 in The Leela Hotel where she was found dead on the night of Jan. 17 A three-member team of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) submitted the preliminary findings of the postmortem report of Sunanda Pushkar to the SDM investigating the case on Monday.

“The report has been given to SDM Alok Sharma. It will reveal all the facts,” Sudhir Kumar Gupta, head of the department of forensic medicine at AIIMS, said.

In the initial post-mortem conducted on Saturday, the doctors alluded that it was a “case of unnatural, sudden death.”

The doctors preserved biological samples to be tested in the laboratory for ascertaining the cause of death.

Police investigators, however, said it could be a case of drug overdose or overdose of sleeping pills but added that things would be clear only after the detailed autopsy report was read.
