After a merry night with his friends, the youth rushes back home to tell his parents he has decided to marry. He wants to marry although he has not yet completed his education and has no job to support himself and his future wife. All he knows about married life is that he will live with the girl he wants to marry.
He treats marriage as if it were a toy or piece of chocolate that can be bought at the nearest shop. His mother and father spend the night happy over the good news and decide to pay for everything. They know that the money will be, for the most part, spent on unnecessary things just to impress people. It is possible that the ather would not be able to raise all the money needed but still he is willing to try. Even the dowry will be paid by the youth’s father. The son starts his new life empty-handed with no money at his disposal, let alone a secure source of income. Why should he bother? After all, his new wife cost him nothing. Then he faces his first test of responsibility when the wife starts making a number of demands and he discovers that in order to run a house, you need money. The wife starts cursing her luck and the relationship begins to deteriorate. Then the inevitable happens and the young man divorces his wife. This has become an all too common story these days.
We may be upset by official statistics on the alarming rates of divorce. If a university or research center initiated a study on the phenomenon , it would find out that these high rates are the result of the way that marriages are being arranged.
A wise father would advise his son not to marry before graduating from college. He would advise him not to venture into marriage before having a secure job. He would advise him against starting a new life before ensuring that the basic daily requirements of married life could be met. Otherwise, the marriage will collapse and this will only increase the tragedies our society is enduring as a result
