JEDDAH, 8 May  — Kuwaiti actor and comedian Dawood Hussain, was the focus of attention at the launch of “You weigh gold,” a new TV game show at a function held at the Leylaty Ballroom on Saturday night.

The celebrity will host the bi-weekly show on the Abu Dhabi satellite TV channel starting from September. Dawood will ask the contestants various questions testing their general knowledge. The winner in the end walks away with gold, his own weight in gold, to be precise!

The comedian has appeared in many TV shows, the latest of which was broadcast during Ramadan. He also appeared in several TV series, plays, and movies, among which were “Bye Bye London,”  “Daoud in Hollywood,” “Daoudiye,” Fada’eat,” “Ghina’eat” and “Dawoodiyat.”  International French game show producer Jean-Pierre Milrecay will be the show’s producer.

According to Emirates Media Inc., the parent company of Abu Dhabi Television, the show will be “the first of its kind” in which contestants will compete to win their weight in gold in addition to dozens of other gold prizes. Director of Abu Dhabi Radio and TV, Ismail Abdullah, an action group was formed and preparations for the program were initiated well in advance to make it attractive to millions of TV viewers.

Muhammad S. Al-Ashrafi, general manager for Dubai of the Jeddah-based Taiba for Gold & Jewels Co., which is sponsoring the program in cooperation with the World Gold Council (WGC), said: “We were particularly attracted to the game show because it’s informative and original, and has the potential to generate a lot of interest among viewers. We also thrive on supporting the Abu Dhabi channel who continue to show their leadership in a very competitive environment.”

Moaz Barakat, regional director of WGC Middle East, said: “The new show represents the first innovative association between the WGC, Abu Dhabi channel and Taiba. There’s no doubt that this program will be extremely successful, especially since gold is everybody’s favorite.”
