DAMMAM, 6 January — Americana Company, owner of Kentucky fast-food chain in the Kingdom, has rejected the result of a US study that Kentucky chicken were genetically treated organic creatures. The denial came following the disclosure of the result of a study conducted by New Hampshire University on Kentucky products.
The outcome of the US study would have sent shock waves among Kentucky consumers as genetically treated products usually cause cancer. But Muhammad Khalifa, director general of Americana Kentucky, said the US university study was baseless. "Our company uses only 100 percent natural chicken as it is concerned with the health of its clients," he said.
The director general said his company had contacted New Hampshire University to understand the authenticity of the study, adding that the university told him that it had nothing to do with the study. Khalifa said his company had lodged a legal suit against the US university at an American court.
Affirming safety of Kentucky chicken, he said the company bought chicken from Abbar & Zainy, marketed under the brand name, Sadiya. "Imported chicken undergoes tests at the Commerce Ministry laboratory." He pointed out that if the chicken were organic creatures, as claimed by the study, Kentucky product prices would have increased at least 30 percent against current prices.
