RIYADH, 6 July —The Labor Department has taken strong measures against 120 private companies that refused to employ Saudi students for summer vacation training.

The department swung in to action when it learned that the student-employees sent by the department to companies at the beginning of the current vacation period were rejected. Director of Riyadh’s Labor Department Hamad Al-Hadeethy said the companies which failed to implement the Council of Ministers’ decision on employing Saudi students during the school vacation period were punished.

Some of the penalized companies had earlier announced that several posts were vacant and invited applicants but refused to accept Saudi students.  The department received 15,000 applications for vacation employment in the beginning of the summer vacation. Most of them except 1,000 applicants were accepted and sent by the department to various employers. Al-Hadeethy warned that strong action would be taken against any employer who did not cooperate with the department’s efforts to find employment for students in summer. Within 15 days of the onset summer, all  commercial establishments have to provide an official statement to the department stating the names of the trainees, their qualifications, period of training and the sum of money paid to them.
