RIYADH, 7 August — A number of Saudi companies and banks have been affected by the Code Red virus, but the King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology said the damage caused was much smaller than had been expected. The Code Red virus damaged more than 7.5 million computers, including 1.5 million in the United States, since it became active last month. Dr. Ilyas Al-Hajry, director of information security at KACST, told Arab News that there was no exact estimate of the damage caused by the virus to companies in the Kingdom.
