JEDDAH, 17 August — A number of tourism agencies have an urgent need to recruit Saudis trained in the tourism and service industries because of the increasing number of visitors to festivals in Jeddah, Taif, Abha and Madinah.
King Abdul Aziz University (KAAU) in Jeddah has been running a diploma course specializing in the tourism and the service industries since last year, in collaboration with travel agencies and Saudi Airlines.
Around 300 trainees are undertaking two years of lectures given by academics from the Faculty of Economics and Administration. They are also gaining practical experience from specialists at Saudi Airlines.
At the latest meeting with the program trainees, Prince Sultan ibn Salman, secretary-general of the Supreme Commission for Tourism, assured them there are many job opportunities awaiting them as soon as they become qualified.
Graduates with the highest marks will be allowed to go on to study for a BA degree at KAAU in a major of their choosing.
