RIYADH, 22 August — Essam Muhammad Suleiman Al-Masaary, wanted by police investigating the circumstances surrounding how his passport was used by Saudi fugitive Majed Tarad Al-Shammary to enter Kuwait illegally last week, has been apprehended.
Al-Watan Arabic newspaper reported that Masaary was arrested at a district behind the Al-Rajhi Complex on Bathaa Street in Riyadh on Monday morning, after he was approached by two security teams.
Masaary had been reported missing over the past month, but he re-appeared in Riyadh on Sunday. According to the daily, Masaary had shaved his head and beard.
Security officers have refused to disclose the specific details of their investigations into Masaary’s activities, or the charges they are likely to bring, saying the probe is in its early stages.
Shammary, the fugitive, arrived in Kuwait last week from Pakistan via Qatar. He has been sentenced to six months in jail by Kuwaiti police for entering the emirate on a fake passport and escaping from an airport hotel, where he had been temporarily detained.
Police have arrested eight others, two Saudis and six Kuwaitis, for their alleged links with Shammary.
