RIYADH, 26 August — A Saudi businessman has signed a contract to establish one of the largest mosques in India within 16 months.
The mosque, to be named after the late Prince Fahd, the eldest son of Riyadh Governor Prince Salman, will be located in Bhopal in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
The businessmen from the Eastern Province, who has requested anonymity, said the mosque attached with an Islamic school will be supervised by the Arab Islamic University in Madhya Pradesh.
The construction work will be supervised by Abdul Razak Khan, head of the Council of Islamic Ruling (Ifta) in the state.
The mosque will be able to accommodate more than 3,000 worshippers and will include a full-fledged educational institution to provide Islamic education to more than 2,000 students.
It will also provide them with food, medical care and transportation.
“The project is an expression of loyalty by the people of Eastern Province toward Prince Salman and an effort to alleviate his grief on the death of Prince Fahd,” the businessman said, and commended the late prince’s great services while he was the deputy governor of the Eastern Province.
