JEDDAH, 26 August — Aviation industry sources have indicated that the maintenance company at Kuala Lumpur airport will be held responsible for the incident in which a Saudi Arabian Airlines jumbo jet skidded into a drain at the airport on Thursday, damaging the plane’s cockpit. Mousa Al-Rubaian, director general of the Cooperative Insurance Company, the insurer of the airline’s large fleet, told Arab News that Saudia has already contacted an independent international authority in London to assess the damages caused to the Boeing 747-300 plane, one of the airline’s newest aircraft. He expressed his hope that, being a minor accident, the investigations would be completed quickly. Saudia has already sent a technical team led by Capt. Saad Al-Shahry to investigate the circumstances that led to the accident, which occurred when the plane was taxied by maintenance workers to the departure gate of the airport’s main terminal.
