ABHA, 1 September — The Asir 22 Summer Festival came to an end with an official function held at the cultural center of Al-Mufta village on Thursday.

Governor of Asir Prince Khaled Al-Faisal distributed prizes to the sponsoring companies, artists, musicians and performers.

Famous Saudi singer Muhammad Abdu entertained the audience as part of the closing ceremony.

This year’s main summer activities were a laser show and fireworks. An International football tournament was also staged. Six foreign teams participated, in addition to local clubs. Al-Ahli from Jeddah took the gold in an exciting final match on Saturday.

Many tourists went to Abha this summer to escape the immense heat. The cool weather of Asir and the beautiful scenery of Al-Sooda, Al-Qara and Al-Habala attracted Saudi visitors as well as tourists from nearby Gulf countries.

Mountain climbing is a sport gaining tremendous popularity in Asir. Known for being the highest mountainous city in the Kingdom, people who are interested in the sport can now find professional trainers who give courses on mountain climbing.

Since schools are starting next week, the crowds are now heading home.
