SANAA, 24 October — The Saudi-Yemeni Joint Ministerial Committee concluded its deliberations here yesterday, achieving major headway in the implementation of the historic border agreement between the two countries.
“The talks were held in the spirit of a single team. The meeting helped a great deal in realizing the achievements of the border accord,” Yemeni Interior Minister Dr. Rashad Al-Aleemi said.
Aleemi called for more coordination between the two countries to strengthen security. He also urged more cooperation in all sectors.
Interior Minister Prince Naif, who led the Saudi side to the Sanaa meeting, highlighted the strong relations between the two countries.
“We all work for the same purpose, for the security of our countries and for the welfare of our peoples. We tell the world that our countries seek power and progress in all areas. Our ambitions have no limit,” Prince Naif told the joint meeting.
Prince Naif praised the courageous decision taken by Saudi and Yemeni leaders to reach the historic border accord which was signed in Jeddah in June last year.
He said the border accord had disappointed their enemies.
He said Saudi Arabia and Yemen have the same stand on terrorism. “We will work jointly to fight terrorism. We also participate in the efforts to combat terrorism,” Prince Naif said.
However, he stressed the need to differentiate between terrorists and those who struggle for their legitimate rights in Palestine and other parts of the world.
Prince Naif also met with Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh and conveyed the greetings of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard.
Prince Naif later held a closed-door session with President Saleh and they discussed matters related to the border accord and security.
