UNITED NATIONS, 16 November — The Kingdom has reaffirmed its condemnation of the terror attacks against the United States and expressed it readiness to participate in any move to eradicate international terrorism.
The Saudi stand on the fight against terror was contained in the text of the Saudi representative’s speech distributed to members of the delegations participating in the 56th session of the General Assembly on Tuesday.
“This conference should define the concept of terrorism while differentiating between terrorism and the right of a nation under occupation to struggle against their occupiers within the framework of international law and UN conventions,” Ambassador Fawzi Shubokshi pointed out.
The Kingdom made clear that it too had suffered as a result of the Sept. 11 terrorist acts and had as a consequence adopted the necessary administrative, legal and security measures to root out the menace.
The Kingdom warned against defaming certain religious or ethnic groups in the name of combating terrorism and urged member countries not to grant protection or refuge to terrorist elements under any circumstances.
In London, a senior British official has commended Saudi Arabia’s role in the international anti-terrorism campaign.
“The significant position of the Kingdom in the campaign against terrorism has been very clear during the recent visit of British Premier Tony Blair to the Kingdom,” Ben Bradshaw, a junior minister at the British Foreign Office, said.
He stressed that the phenomenon of terrorism has nothing to do with Islam. (SPA)
