MAKKAH, 24 November — Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed is scheduled to attend the graduation ceremony of a course to train Saudis to work as salesmen in the gold and jewelry showrooms. It was organized by the national project for training and employment in conjunction with the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
"Under the project, six courses have been conducted which were attended by 180 Saudi youths," said Abdul Aziz Al-Huzaa, secretary-general of the national project.
The trainees have been given a number of lectures on the developments in the marketing of gold and jewelry and have been trained intensively in jewelry-selling techniques. They are also given field training in methods of evaluating and weighing gold by taking them to specialist establishments in the city. "The course basically aims to train young Saudis so that they can enter and Saudize the gold and jewelry market in the private sector. Currently, there is an acute shortage for Saudi workers in this sector," the Al-Huzaa said.
Prince Abdul Majeed will also attend today a function to distribute prizes to the outstanding students of the Holy Qur’an memorization course organized by the Qur’an Memorization Society at Makkah.
Over 340 students successfully completed the current memorization course, in which the students have to memorize whole of the Holy Qur’an. In another course conducted by the society in which the students are required to memorize half of the holy book, 900 students passed.
Another 209 students have passed from the Al-Arqam Institute for higher studies, which offers higher education for the students who complete various courses offered by the society. The correct style of recitation of the holy book and several other topics of Muslim culture are taught here. The graduates from the institute are qualified to teach at the society’s schools and other Qur’an learning centers. There are a total of 26,000 children studying in the schools run by the society.
In another development, Makkah Mayor Khaled Nahhas said Prince Abdul Majeed will open an amusement park in the Al-Rusaifah district on Wednesday. The SR40 million project covers an area of 170,000 square meters. The first phase of the project, which includes a small lake, green lawns, indoor stadium and shopping areas, has been completed.
