JEDDAH, 10 December — Ten people were killed and several injured in a number of road accidents reported from various parts of the Kingdom during the past couple of days. In Hafr Batin, seven peopled died when two cars collided head on and caught fire on Friday, Al-Riyadh reported yesterday. One of the cars was carrying a man and his five sons, all of whom were burned to death. The driver of the other car involved in that accident also died. In the other accident on Saturday, a speeding car overturned on the Makkah-Madinah highway killing three passengers and injuring another. Officials of the highway patrol took the injured man and the dead to Madinah. Saudi Arabia has one of the biggest road accident rates in world. The authorities are struggling to bring down the rate by introducing new safety measures and launching awareness campaigns across the country.
