RIYADH, 14 December — Border guards rescued six Iraqis from a sinking vessel off the Khafji coast on Dec. 1, said Lt. Gen. Talal ibn Mohsin Al-Anqawi, director general of the Border Guards in a press statement yesterday. The vessel that sinked was believed to have been carrying 150 tons of dates according to the sailmen. Upon receiving an SOS message from the Iraqi boat, which was sailing from Basra to Dubai, the Border Guard’s rescue boat rushed to the scene of the mishap. Two of the sailors were already killed before the rescue arrived. The ship was sailing through heavy gales and bad weather, said the surviving sailmen. The Iraqis will be sent back to their country after their health improves, Al-Anqawi said. (SPA)
