JEDDAH, 23 December — The Islamic Fiqh Academy of the Muslim World League will hold its 16th annual session in Makkah between Jan. 5-10 to discuss modern-day issues in light of Islamic teachings. Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed will open the meetings, said MWL Secretary-General Dr. Abdullah ibn Abdul Mohsen Al-Turki. Experts in various areas including medical sciences, cosmology, economics and finance will join religious scholars to debate a number of issues facing contemporary Muslims in different parts of the world, Dr. Al-Turki said. Among the topics on the agenda are the use of DNA, debt collection, protection of investment accounts kept with Islamic banks, medicines containing alcohol and narcotics, participation of Muslims in elections in non-Muslim states, and divorces secured by Muslim women from non-Islamic courts.
