JEDDAH, 30 December — Saleh Hasan Hanjour, 65, father of Hani Hanjour who is a suspect in the Sept. 11 terror attacks against the United States, died yesterday in Taif after suffering from a brain hemorrhage two days ago.
Hanjour, a notable figure in the region, believed that his son Hani was still alive, a thought shared by other members of the family, till his last moments.
"My father never talked about Hani since his name appeared in the list of suspects published by the US authorities," Hani’s brother Yasser said.
Hanjour is survived by two other sons — Abdulrahman and Majed.
"My father was never strict with sons. He only wanted them to be pious and read the Holy Qur’an, and emulate the noble qualities of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)," said Yasser.
He was a man of few words and loved reading newspapers, he added.
People in the region described Hanjour as kind-hearted and lovable and said he followed moderate course in religious matters. He worked as a food contractor to the military in the Western Province.
