JEDDAH, 17 January — Authorities have ordered a complete halt to construction work and the sale of land in Jeddah’s Al-Salama District following a land dispute between real estate owners in the area and the new district owners.
Justice Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Sheikh has directed the authorities concerned to enlist the disputed properties extending from the Shuaibi Mosque to the Quraish Street on the north and from the Saqr Quraish Street to the Yamamah Street intersection on the west.
The decision banning real estate sales and construction in the area caught estate owners off guard as the municipality stopped construction works on residential units and commercial centers in the district.
Sources at the New Jeddah Municipality said they have received orders from the higher authorities to stop all construction and sales until the land disputes are settled.
Al-Salama district was planned about 25 years ago by Al-Huwaish Establishment and was considered one of the best planned residential districts in Jeddah.
