MAKKAH, 17 February — The family of Faisal Manna Al-Silmi, who was convicted by a US federal court for lying under oath, has described the US action against their son as a travesty of justice. Speaking to Okaz, they said Silmi’s only crime was to have met with Hani Hanjour, one of the suspects in the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, at a mosque in America. "Is it possible for a person to understand the motives and views of another from just a brief meeting at a mosque?" they asked. Silmi is accused of telling the FBI that he did not know anything about Hanjour, although they had spoken with one another several times.
