JEDDAH, 16 March — About 11,000 Saudis are likely to have contracted HIV that causes the killer disease of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), Dr. Abdullah Al-Hoqail of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh said quoting estimates of the World Health Organization. According to Al-Riyadh newspaper, there are 225 Saudi AIDS patients at King Faisal Hospital in Riyadh where they are receiving special treatment. The paper said the number of AIDS cases was based on the assumption that when there is a recorded AIDS case there will be 10 other cases which are not discovered or in the initial stage.
