JEDDAH, 19 March — Naif Saeedi went to a shop to give his car an oil change while driving in the Eastern Province. Little did he realize what was in store for him when the shop dealer handed him a form on which he should fill in his personal details. He thought it was perhaps for a raffle. He returned the form and minutes later one of the cans that the shop dealer had opened to change the engine oil started talking.

A voice from the can said: Congratulations, you’ve been selected as a participant for the MBC TV’s popular TV game show — Who wants to be a millionaire!

Saeedi told Arab News that he had already tried a few times to get onto the program, but without success.

More than 11,000 cans of Super GT motor oil have been fitted with photosensitive devices, which start playing a recording when exposed to light.

The promotion, which continues until June 9, is the biggest of its kind launched by local oil companies, according to Ahsan Rashid, president of the Alhamrani-Fuchs Petroleum Saudi Arabia.

In all, 24 people are being selected in this way for participation on the game show. The local company has also announced that contestants’ winnings during the special episodes will be donated to three charity organizations. However, Fuchs will also pay contestants 50 percent of their winnings in cash.

Dakheel Al-Elayani won the chance to be on WWTBAM after a talking can spoke to him at a Fuchs one-stop shop, but it is his brother, Hamed, who will appear on the show instead of him.

"I always wanted to compete on the game show, but thought my chances of getting on it were slim. Little did I know that the combination of Fuchs Super GT oil and brotherly love will land me on the hot seat," he remarked.
