JEDDAH, 26 March — The Council of Ministers yesterday urged Arab leaders attending a Beirut summit this week to adopt effective resolutions to bring an end to the savage Israeli aggression against Palestinians.

The two-day summit is set to be dominated by a Saudi peace proposal that offers normalization of Arab ties with Israel in exchange for full Israeli withdrawal from all Arab land occupied in the 1967 Middle East war. “The savage aggression of Israeli occupation forces against Palestinians demands a sincere determination by all Arab countries to make effective resolutions,” the Cabinet stated.

The Cabinet meeting, chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd, said the summit resolutions should seek to prevent the continuation of Israeli atrocities that have killed over one thousand innocent people. “We hope that the summit will realize the Arab nation’s hopes and aspirations of finding successful solutions to major issues,” King Fahd said, addressing the weekly Cabinet meeting.

Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, is expected to lead the Kingdom’s delegation to the summit. He is to present his historic peace proposal to achieve a comprehensive Middle East settlement.

King Fahd said the resolutions to be adopted at the conference must strengthen Arab unity, uphold Arab honor and help restore rights on the basis of relevant UN resolutions.

The Cabinet authorized the foreign minister to hold talks with his Singaporean counterpart to reach an agreement for cooperation in economic, commercial, investment, scientific, technical and cultural areas, as well as in sports and youth activities. It also assigned the chief of the Presidency of Civil Aviation to sign an air transportation agreement with Hong Kong.

The meeting appointed Khaled ibn Hamad Al-Anqari as deputy governor of the General Organization for Technical Education and Vocational Training (GOTEVT) for education training.

It appointed Abdul Rahman Al-Muammar as director of medical services at the Interior Ministry, Ahmad Al-Aiban as director of municipal and rural affairs in the Makkah region and Suleiman Al-Muqbil as director of municipal and rural affairs in the Eastern Province.

The Cabinet approved new regulations for the publications of King Fahd Qur’an Printing Complex in Madinah.
