JEDDAH — I could not help but notice the word “vitamin.” You must admit it sounds quite original. Good food that is both delicious and nutritious. It says “Eat here and you’ll have more energy and vitality”.

You cannot miss it; it’s always crowded. You see people standing in line to eat shawarma at this place. Although shawarma is not their only specialty, many think that they have the best in town. Those tiny shawarma sandwiches with the big taste — I can feel my mouth water! The meat and chicken alike, both full of flavor are so scrumptious. The meat is tender and tastes juicy with their special sauces. They have some mayonnaisy substance with garlic and humus. They even manage to get some French fries in there.

They have lamb and mixed shawarma as well. Plus they have a wide selection of other sandwiches such as fish finger, white cheese, egg with tomato kebab; even some less appetizing ones — brain, sheep liver, kidneys, tongues...etc.

I am not so brave as to try any though.

Their menu is very long: Soup, fresh cocktails, appetizers, pastries, salads, falafel and some Western dishes too.

As for soup, they have mushroom, lentil, and vegetable, chicken soup with cream and also fish soup. I recommend the chicken soup. They have good grape leaves, humus, tabbuleh, mutabbal, baba ghannuje and much more. They serve pizza, manaeesh, kibbah, spinach pie, cheese pie and meat pie. The spring rolls are nothing out of this world but certainly worth a try.

Kibbah and humus are most appetizing. They have some interesting salads such as bean salad, tuna, onion, olive, potato salad, cabbage, fatoush and yogurt. They have tasty kebabs that are for sure more than you’ve bargained for. They look inviting and taste juicy.

As for Western dishes, I wouldn’t go to a place like this for dishes like that. Nevertheless, they’ve got shrimps penne, fried fish fillet, chicken and meat escalope, lobster and pepper steak. The juices are fresh and refreshing. They have an excellent variety of juices: Orange, grapefruit, raspberry, pomegranate, melon, apple, strawberry and banana with milk, kiwi, avocado, carrot, guava and sugar cane. The prices are very reasonable; for example, juices are no more than 7 riyals and soups are the same. Sandwiches go up to 5 riyals and grilled kabab is only SR18. Even the escalope is a measly SR35.

They have a special weekly menu for the whole month at this Lebanese haven.

They serve some lovely dishes. They serve lamb and macaroni with bechamel, white beans, okra, eggplant, sayadiyah rice with fish, and chicken with saffron, mmm mmm.

Too bad the atmosphere in the restaurant is not so pleasant. It’s rather commercial actually, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It requires people with a certain taste to appreciate it. Or else order take out.
