KARACHI, 31 March — Several hundreds failed to appear for their matriculation examinations because of a transport strike yesterday that also affected office goers and movement of goods here. This morning quite a large number of boys and girls lined up at bus stops only to discover that it would not be possible to reach the examination center. Bus owners had taken their vehicles off the roads to protest against alleged police harassment and the institution of a murder case against the driver and owner of a bus for causing the death to two young girls in an accident. Taxi drivers and motor rickshaws, exploited the situation to demand inflated fares from passengers, residents complained.
